The Basics of Collaborative Law
Collaborative Law is:
- An unique method of amicably resolving family law disputes by working together collaboratively through a series of meetings rather than resorting to the court
- A private process whereby you, with the help of your lawyers and neutral experts, resolve your dispute with dignity
- A safe environment that provides an opportunity to minimize the negative economic, social, and emotional costs of going to court
- An interest-based negotiation that often results in creative solutions that better meet the needs of your family
Collaborative Law is not:
- Litigation, which leaves the ultimate decisions regarding your family up to a judge and giving you little or no control over the final outcome
- Adversarial, which often leaves your family relationships even more strained than before
